Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd. develops raw materials characterised by the use of production area thread processing and textile techniques, such as polyester composition, based around the triacetate textile soalon. It is the only company in the world to produce this textile.

Triacetate has the high-quality brilliance of silk and deep colourability. It surpasses other materials in areas such as spread, stiffness and drape thanks to quality improvement using acetic acid on natural-derived textiles, made primarily from natural pulp. Because of its thermoplasticity, not found in products such as rayon, triacetate can even undergo pleating or other forms of processing.

Recently, Mitsubishi Rayon has succeeded in producing silk-tone fabrics with high triacetate content, polyester-composite hemp-like materials, and other fabrics with textures that resemble natural materials. There is now global backing for products that combine a material feel that surpasses natural equivalents, with the ease of care and wrinkle resistance not found in natural products.

It is very difficult to apply next-generation processes, such as colour processing, to soalon, so a great deal of knowhow is required. Companies in the Hokuriku production area have in-depth knowledge of soalon, thanks to many years of working together with Mitsubishi Rayon. By fusing yarn processing, weaving, knitting and dyeing technology, these companies are the driving force behind the production of unique textiles.
